The local Guatemalan community is very important to the Project Somos Children's Village.

Mutual support between the Village and the local community is encouraged whenever and wherever possible.

The social and cultural harmony will be promoted by offering educational programs and health services to the community at large.

The local customs and religions are respected and there is no attempt at any conversion to any religious belief or creed. The Village has no specific political or religious affiliations.

Local community will be employed whenever and wherever possible.

Children from the local community will be encouraged and welcome to participate in activities within the Children's Village.

Development of the local school will be assisted where possible. The public curriculum will be augmented by various intellectual and artistic subjects in classrooms and workshops at the Village.
